Stevie D'Addario, owner of Stevie D's
Just got word that Steve D’Addario, better known as Stevie D, has passed away. D’Addario was the proprietor of Stevie D’s, a ramshackle comedy club a couple miles off of Rte 1 in Middleton, MA, about 45 minutes north of Boston. D’Addario and his room were a big part of the fast-paced Boston comedy scene in the mid- to late-80’s. The low-ceilinged club was frequently packed. The crowds were tremendous. A family-run business, Stevie D’s treated the comics exceptionally well. It was obvious that D’Addario enjoyed standup and he derived a great deal of satisfaction from running a comedy club. It was also clear that he enjoyed the company of comedians. When the club closed in the early ’90s, we mourned the loss. Now we mourn the loss of the guy who started it.

I juat wanted you to know that I am his youngest son. And after hearing about his death, I cried for days. The grief was endless and I was suffering from it. My father really treated me well and was a true friend to me and I will miss him.
Stevie D was my baby brother. His sudden death impacted so many of us, friends as well as family. As you can imagine, I miss him more than I am able to describe in words. He was loving, kind and generous. Stevie D assisted in a helping many in need. (Any comedian reading this knows just what I mean)Successful comedians today who are known nationally, got there start at the infamous Stevie D’s. To name a few, Jimmy Tingle, Dana Gould, and Lenny Clark. When Stevie D envisioned bringing Comedy to the north shore of Boston, 23 banks turned him down for financing. Steve took each rejection and turned in to a positive energy. The 24th said yes. He built the “ramshackle club” they came, laughed and returned over and over again. Most of all, Stevie D will be remembered for his deep love and loyalty to his family. Theresa
