From: scott@scottsvenom.comSubject: Kelly Moran’s memorial serviceTo: Like_We_Care@sheckymagazine.comHi, you guys.:) My name’s Scott Bennett and Kelly Moran was my best friend. First of all, I wanted to thank you guys for posting the info about Kelly’s memorial that we had for him at the Comedy Store. We had a really good turn out and everything went really well. I know Kelly loved it. I was wondering if you could post this letter that I wrote to thank all of the people that showed up and for the people that called and gave their support. It reads: We had Kelly Moran’s memorial service at the Comedy Store last week and it was awesome! We had about 60+ people there and there was no shortage of people wanting to get up and share their stories about Kelly. It was kind of a general consensus that we all felt Kelly there.Kelly’s ex-wife, Darby and his oldest daughter, Aubrie both sang and they were awesome. Darby also brought a lot of video tape and dvd’s of Kelly and his act and it was great to revisit him that way again. Obviously, I can’t remember everyone that came, but I want to thank everyone that did and all of the people that kept Kelly in their thoughts and prayers . I know that it was exactly the kind of service that Kelly would have wanted. Thanks again to Cash Levy. He’s a great guy and he was completely responsible for getting the main room at the Comedy Store. Since I’m on that, I’d like to thank the Comedy Store for being so accommodating. Not only did they give us the main room from 8:30pm on, but they also gave us a waitress to make sure that we were taken care of. They were really nice. One more story and I’ll let you guys go. I played a Muller room just outside Indianapolis called “Key’s n’ Laughs” on the week that was in between Kelly’s funeral and the service at the Comedy Store. The gig had two rooms; one was a dueling piano bar and the other, obviously, was a comedy club. The guys that were playing piano knew I was a piano player, so after I got done with my sets they let me sit in. Ironically, Kelly and I had talked about him opening up a dueling piano bar in Amarillo and he wanted me to do it with him. About a month before his passing he had picked out a place and wanted to open it after the first of the year. It was really hard looking across the pianos and watching the other guys play while I was playing. I kept on thinking “this should be with Kelly”. I was really looking forward to that with Kelly and it’s difficult to know that I’ll never get that opportunity now.It was amazing last Wednesday to see how many people’s lives Kelly had touched. There were three generations of comics there. The comics that were headliners when Kelly started, his contemporaries now and the comics that had been in the business for just a while that Kelly had taken the time to encourage and help. He was especially kind to comics starting out, in the sense that he would invite them up on stage to do improv with him and always gave encouragement and advice in a non-condescending way to those that wanted to live their dreams of being a stand-upHe was a good guy with a big heart. He was one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. He was outstanding to hear and watch play keys and he was my best friend. I’ll miss him forever. Thanks again for all of your support. You guys have been awesome!Scott If you could post it that would be great. Thanks again for everything.
