Perfect face for comedy?
An Ananova item tells of some scientists who “blended the features of 20 top comics to come up with the perfect face for comedy.” See the results below.
“The characteristics of a feminine face imply that the person may be agreeable and co-operative, which can be causal in our first impressions of comedians as being friendly and funny,” say the eggheads. And that “a round face, small forehead and wide nose, with soft feminine features, is most likely to make us laugh.”
The Male Half has a large forehead, a long, narrow face, a thin nose and sharp masculine features. All along he’s been convinced it was the glasses that made some audiences hostile.

He’s awfully pale for an aggregation of twenty top comics. No Chris Rock, Bill Cosby, Dave Chappelle?
Apparently ambiguous hair is also the mark of a great comic?
Your not-so-astute observation has been noted. It is quite obvious that the result is a white person. We would also point out that it is a male and not a female. But where does that get us?We hope you’re kidding. We grow weary of the race/gender/ethnicity police looking over our shoulder. (See post above about Comedy Central’s Herzog. Our admonition of him is meant as a parody of political correctness.) They were the top 20 <>British<> comics. We suspect that <>Lenny Henry<> was busy the day they took the photos. We don’t cook the food, we just serve it.In a private email, someone pointed out how much the composite resembles an amalgam of <>Larry Miller<>, Charles Grodin and <>Billy Crystal<>. We concur.
… or a very young Albert Brooks, who, in my opinion, still has the perfect face for comedy. They should follow up with a “perfect voice” composite, though I don’t know what the middle ground between Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor would sound like.
No, I wasn’t kidding. But it wasn’t about being politically correct. I wasn’t saying that they SHOULD include black comics, just that I couldn’t imagine any list of top 20 comics wouldn’t have had at least two black comics on it, and that would’ve led to a much darker image.Of course I was the one being ethnocentric in assuming that it was top American comics. I don’t know who the top British comics are so obviously I also don’t know what they look like.Apparently though, they look like Art Garfunkel.
FYI — this is exactly what my headshots looked like from GlamorShots. Indistinct in the face, blurry around the edges… me in a nutshell! My GlamorShots photographer was an impressionist (and, no, that’s not a Rich Little callback).
I don’t recognize the facial features, but the throat and shoulder hair is defiantely Robin Williams.
