Richard Jeni, comedian
The word on the street, confirmed by us, via more than one party close to the deceased, is that Richard Jeni has chosen to end his life. His website contains only the words “richardjeni.com” in grey letters on a black background, and it’s not a hyperlink.
It is said that he chose to do so because of seemingly intractable medical problems, the nature of which we are not privy to.
We will offer further information as it becomes available.
If anyone else has any information, they are advised to hit the comments button and contribute.
Our condolences go out to Richard’s friends and family.

Unfortunately, it is true. Richard Jeni has passed. He was one of the greats and will be missed by many. As a friend, I wish that he would have reached out for help, if at all possible. Rest in Peace Richard.Willy
I have vivid memories of the wonderful Richard Jeni starting out at the Rainy Night House in Queens, New York. Unlike his friend and colleague John Mulroony – who was always the picture of confidence on stage – Richard began as a very shy performer. All of a sudden he found his voice and self assurance and was off and running. I loved my nights working with him and watching him. His voice was unique and he was a master standup comic. His death is a terribly sad event.

Terrible news. I remember one slow night at the Improv Hollywood where he got up and destroyed. It was something to see.
I was always a fan of Richard’s and got to work with him for one Saturday night at the Icehouse a few years ago. He was extremely cool and we talked jokes like a couple of young open mikers all night long. He was inspirational and kind and I’m very upset that he’s gone.
Sunday, March 11, 2007Dear Shecky,Sometime during the late afternoon yesterday, a mutual friend of ours called me with the news of Rich Jeni’s death. I searched the online news sources and found nothing about it…until I came to your site, and there it was – a brief and tasteful confirmation of thehorrible news. I should have come to you first. Bravo.I worked with Jeni maybe half a dozen times and the main thing I remember is how hard he could make me laugh. The whole thing is breaking my heart so I’ll just say I’m a better comic for having known him. Thanks again,John Bizarre_ _ _ _ _Brian and Traci: I’ve been out of the loop and just heard about JeniSo I went to the source- you guys who’d have more insight then the regular media. So sad.Ward Smith
