His parents are not amused…
The Delhi Newsline is carrying an article profiling one Vir Saran Das, a 24-year-old who, while studying investment banking at Harvard a few years ago, chucked it all for standup comedy stardom.
Training in acting helped Vir with voice modulation and ridding him of stage fright. He wrote his first stand-up comedy special in his senior year which was performed to sold-out crowds of over 600 a night. And it wasn’t long before he was giving solo performances at professional comedy clubs across the States…
He’s big on Indian television right now and Bollywood is calling.
Has anyone ever worked with this guy? Solo performances at professional comedy clubs across the States? We would have heard about a guy from India in his late teens, early 20s headlining in America. Unless he was doing shows just for expat Indians and four-walling venues in cities with large Indian populations. (We hear commercials on WPRB out of Princeton, during the Indian music program, for all kinds of Indian-specific entertainment– movies mostly. It’s like a whole other world! Maybe that’s where he headlined. Hmmm…)

Ppl need to check up on all the info this guy gives before publishing it..I knew him sometime back and from what I gathered he is not always accurate about what he says..don’t get me wrong..he is a good natured person but dosen’t always tell the truth.
I know the guy and he is actually a very decent comic. He is working almost every major venue here. I work in the press and also know that he hardly gives any interviews. He only sends out his press release to the papers when they need to do an article on him. Something that he will probably also tell you is that 80% of the entertainment articles in indian metros are peppered with exaggerated info. Reporters take a small piece of info and blow it up for readers and ratings. I know he trained at Harvard for four months and studied in the US near Chicago for four years. But in the newspaper, they say he went to harvard for four years. Its a standard tactic. Just extend on the info already given in artist’s press releases. Most idnian artists are prone to this kind of falsification that they have to clear up later on because of irresponsible reporters.
Vir Saran Das is a very gifted individual. He has always been the center of attention at many a social gathering and is flat out funny. He has always enjoyed making people laugh…it gives him a “high” and if you look at some of his earlier works you’ll know what I mean. He’s very determined and knows exactly what he wants and how to get it. A fact that sometimes works against him. Although he didhn’t start out great he picked himself up and kept at it….one of the few admirable qualities about him. He is quite a charmer and can smooth talk his way through almost any situation. He has a way with words, which is why he’s so good at what he does. Sometimes he lies, yes, but he’s a showman. And that’s part of his act. I hope he gets all the success in the world and lives his life to the fullest. The way he always wanted it.– P.P
