Promo starts for “Brother Sam”
It’s a “screen test,” and it was “leaked,” doncha know!
If this is the guy, it’ll be a hell of a lot better than Dustin Hoffman as “Lenny.” (Do yourselves a favor and skip the comments. “…this is a shit right on Sam’s grave…” and comments like that. Yeesh!)
(The Male Half saw Kinison live at the Chestnut Cabaret in Philly, circa 1984 (?). The Cabaret was a small (900-1,200 people?) venue, so it must have been before he went huge.)
Thanks to Kensil for the tip!
An astute reader sends along the following:
“I watched the video of Brother Sam and thought the actor was great. Something wasn’t sitting right with me and I couldn’t figure it out. Then I realized that it says “Dangerfield’s 1984″… well, he does a “We Are the World” bit. “We Are the World” took place in 1985. I wonder if they know that.”
The reader, Shawn Dion, is correct. The recording session, according to Wikipedia, took place in January 1985, to take advantage of the convergence of stars for the American Music Awards.
The single and the album swept the music and video worlds in 1985, so Kinison could not have done a bit on it at Dangerfield’s in 1984, as the video indicates.
Hmmm… are we being taunted by the producers of the film? Is this like finding buried clues on the covers of Abby Road or Sgt. Pepper’s?
Or… is this just sloppiness on the part of the producers?
Not a good omen if it’s the latter.
Especially with folks like Shawn Dion in the audience.
Thanks, Shawn!
