We’re always the last to know…

by Brian McKim & Traci Skene on March 5th, 2011

Occasionally, when we think of it, we’ll google “Sheckymagazine,” just to see what’s being said or blogged about our publication. (It has nothing to do with vanity and everything to do with good business. We’ve found some pretty interesting– and occasionally goofy– stuff by googling the mag.)

Imagine our surprise when we found this blog entry (on a blog called “Comedy Land,” curated by one L. Wayne Hicks, managing editor of the Denver Business Journal):

Brian McKim and fellow comedian (and wife) Traci Skene, the duo behind the long-running website sheckymagazine.com, are writing “The Comedy Bible: The Complete Resource for Aspiring Comedians.” Barron’s Educational Series has a Sept. 1 publication date. Both McKim and Skene appeared in season seven of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” with McKim making it into the semifinals.

Of course, it’s all true. (At least we think it’s true… we weren’t aware of the Sept. 1 pub date, but we assume it’s real!) But we were momentarily wigged because we didn’t know that Barron’s had launched any kind of publicity campaign yet. (Actually, they still probably haven’t… this, we assume, was taken directly from a press release.)

We’ve reached out to L. Wayne Hicks, via LinkedIn, but have yet to hear back from him. (It never occurred to us to contact Barron’s! We’ve been pretty much exclusively corresponding with the co-publisher, in the U.K., during the writing and editing process.)

Well, there you have it: The reason our posting has been anemic. That, and two cruises and a move across the continent. Stay tuned.

As for Comedy Land, it’s been up since January 2007, but Hicks has posted only occasionally.  But there’s a good interview with the late Mitch Hedberg and a lengthy and relevant (at least to us) interview with Louie Anderson.
