Long Live the Club List!
We’re coming up on our THIRTEENTH ANNIVERSARY here at SHECKYmagazine.com! Thirteen years! Wow! At about 12:01 AM, on April 1, 1999, we uploaded a “monthly issue” of SHECKYmagazine.com!
Anyway… we decided to pull the plug on our club list. It has had a good, long run. We didn’t put it up until year two (maybe late in year one). In our first year of publication, we had an anti-link policy. We didn’t put hyperlinks in any stories. (Why send anyone elsewhere? We reasoned. Not a popular stance among the cyber-fascists who were under the illusion that they made and enforced the “rules” of the WWW at the time, you can bet on that!)
Anyway, we changed. We created a page that contained dozens (hundreds?) of links to comedians’ websites. That became obsolete relatively fast… we ditched it after three or four years. Then we created the club list.
What a giant hassle to update! (And, to be honest, we got tired of helping clubs that never seemed inclined to help us… you know, by actually BOOKING us! Not that there was a quid pro quo, but we got awfully tired of providing the quid and getting precious little quo in return. We’re giving people… to a point.)
We decided about three years ago to ditch the club list. And we honestly thought we had! But we got an email from a club owner telling us that his club’s phone number had changed.
Wha?
Oh… the club list.
We just rummaged around under the website’s hood and obliterated it. The Club List is dead! Long live the club list!

Our Book!
You couldn’t have just left well enough alone? A resource is a resource. You put yourself out there as a voice for comedians, yet you pull information that some of us see as valuable? It seems counterintuitive coming from someone who professes to be pro comedian.
Hey, how about you go fuck yourself?
Have you any idea just how much time and effort goes into maintaining a list like that?
We didn’t think so.
When we first put up the list, there was no such thing as Google.com… Now there is.
We’d rather have no information up there rather, than inaccurate or incomplete information up there.
We’re still a resource. Over the years, we’ve changed as to exactly what kind of resource we are. The Club List doesn’t fit in now.
And save yourself the trouble of telling us that we shouldn’t tell you to go fuck yourself.
We’ll behave how we want to behave.

Well, it had its run. I appreciated and enjoyed the Club List and it helped connect me to early road work during my first couple of years. Thanks for having the list. I totally understand the need to ditch it though. I have a hard enough time keeping a BlogRoll updated.
If only you could also retire the “entitlement mentality” some people have, along with that list. But then, I’m a dreamer.

Well, Art…That information had become dated and much of it was no longer valid. If you just wanted it the way it WAS, you could have saved it or printed it out. Simple!
That said: in just what way could an ever-changing list of phone numbers and addresses be LEFT ALONE? You weren’t really asking for anything to be LEFT ALONE. You were asking (expecting) Brian and Traci to do more *free* ongoing WORK for you.
Anything else you want? Like someone to come over and read the blog to you out loud while you are eating your toast?
